Trauma healing and integration

Trauma—whether from distinct overwhelming events or long-standing relational and childhood experiences—leaves a lasting footprint on both the mind and body. It can manifest as chronic hypervigilance, emotional numbness, sudden triggers, intrusive memories, or persistent feelings of shame and self-doubt.

Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I integrate three highly effective, evidence-based frameworks to help you process trauma safely, cultivate self-compassion, and achieve lasting resolution.

1. Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)

Trauma often causes painful memories to get "stuck" in the nervous system, retaining their original emotional intensity. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (such as side-to-side eye movements or gentle tapping) to help your brain reprocess stored traumatic memories. This allows the nervous system to discharge bound energy, transforming intense triggers into neutral historical events.

2. Ego State Therapy (Working with Internal Parts)

We all possess different "parts" of ourselves—such as an inner protector, a self-critical voice, or a wounded childhood part carrying old pain. Trauma often creates divides between these internal states. Ego State Therapy helps you meet these distinct parts with curiosity and compassion rather than frustration, facilitating internal harmony, reduced conflict, and deep emotional integration.

3. Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

While EMDR targets specific memory networks, a psychodynamic lens provides the overarching framework to understand how trauma has shaped your identity, core beliefs, and relational patterns. Together, we explore how past defenses developed to protect you, helping you develop healthier ways of relating to yourself and others in the present.

What Healing Looks Like in Our Work

Through this combined approach, therapy becomes a space not just for managing symptoms, but for deep, transformative repair. Together, we work to:

  • Establish Safety & Stabilization: Build grounding tools and somatic resources before diving into painful memory processing.

  • Reprocess Stuck Memories: Resolve past distressing experiences without needing to relive every detail in painful depth.

  • Unify Internal Conflict: Understand and soothe protective parts (like perfectionism, avoidance, or anger) so they no longer drive your automatic responses.

  • Rewire Core Beliefs: Shift deep-seated beliefs like "I am unsafe" or "It was my fault" toward grounded truths like "I am safe now" and "I am worthy."

  • Restore Agency & Connection: Reclaim a sense of personal authority, presence, and ease in your body and relationships.
